Part 1️⃣: Formula

1st

  • Only 7th group, we don’t drop the conjugational sign.
    + From 1st to 6th group: they don’t cause any influences on the root.
    + 7th group: have a special quality to affect the root vowel, so we don’t drop.

Root: dhāv (to run), base: dhāva
Dhāva + i => dhāva + i
(drop a -> insert i)

📝✍👉 Note: the verb atthi (he is) has not got its own future. The future forms of bhavati, bhavissati, etc., play a part in its future forms.

a) Pāḷi to English

Pāḷi

English

Root + Suffix(conj. sign) + Termination

1. Ahaṃ vasissāmi.

pr. = vasati

I shall live/dwell

√vas + a + ssāmi > √vas + i + ssāmi > vassissāmi

 

2. Tumhe gacchissatha.

pr. = gacchatha

You will go.

√gam + a  > gaccha + ssatha > gacchissatha

 

3. Te āgacchissanti.

pr. = āgacchanti

They will come.

ā + √gam > āgaccha + ssanti > āgacchissanti

 

4. Mayaṃ nisīdissāma.

pr. = nisīdāma

We will sit.

ni + √sīd / sada + a > nisīda + issāma > nisīdissāma

 

5. Tvaṃ sayissasi.

pr. = sayasi

You will lie down.

sī + a > saya + ssasi > sayissati

 

6. Ahaṃ uṭṭhahissāmi.

pr. = uṭṭhahāmi

I shall get up.

u + ṭhā + (ha) + a > uṭṭhaha + ssāmi > uṭṭhahissāmi

 

7. Te apagacchissanti.

pr. = apagacchanti

They will go away.

apa + √gam + a > apagaccha + ssanti > apagacchanti

 

8. Ahaṃ jānissāmi.

pr. = jānāmi.

I shall understand.

√ñā + nā > jānā + ssāmi > jānissāmi

 

9. Te jinisanti

pr. = jinanti

They will conquer.

√ji + nā > jinā + ssanti > jinissanti.

 

10. Tumhe suṇissatha.

pr. = suṇātha

You will hear.

√su + ṇā > suṇā + ssatha > suṇissatha.

 

b) English to Pāḷi

  1. I shall know. => Ahaṃ jānissāma.
  2. They will conquer. => Te jinissanti.
  3. He will cover up. => So chādessati.
  4. I shall develop. => Ahaṃ bhāvessāmi.
  5. They will steal. => Te coressanti.
  6. He will spread. => So tanissati.
  7. We shall heap up. => Mayaṃ/ Amhe cinissāma.
  8. We shall attain. => Mayaṃ/ Amhe pāpuṇissāma.
  9. He will steal. => So coressati.
  10. They will come. => Te āgacchissāma.
