Bhikkhunī Saṅgha

The Bhikkhunī Saṅgha is the community of fully ordained female Buddhist nuns. In Theravāda tradition they follow 311 rules, they wear orange or brown robes, and they shave their heads. They dedicate their life to meditation, wisdom, and to the teaching of the Buddha. Bhikkhunī are an essential part of Buddhism. Along with Bhikkhus (fully ordained male monks), they carry the wisdom and the teaching from generation to generation. Thanks to both of them, and to the lay followers, Buddhism is still alive today, after over 2500 years.
